Daily Journal Recognizes Baron & Budd’s Head of Class Action in 2024 Top Plaintiff Lawyers List

California trial lawyer among attorneys who 'champion’ plaintiff litigation

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--National plaintiff law firm Baron & Budd, P.C., is pleased to announce the California Daily Journal’s selection of shareholder Roland Tellis to its 2024 Top Plaintiff Lawyers listing. The California publication recognizes distinguished attorneys who “champion plaintiff-side consumer litigation.”

“Roland is a force in the legal community and a trailblazer in the class action bar,” said President and Managing Shareholder Russell Budd. “We are proud to have him leading the charge of our class action team.”

Tellis is Chair of the firm’s Los Angeles-based Class Action Practice Group and co-manages the firm’s Los Angeles office. Over the past year, he obtained consumer class action settlements valued in excess of $750 million, including securing a $444.5 million class settlement, along with co-counsel, in a case against Hino Motors Ltd. involving alleged falsified emissions tests.

Tellis and his team also reached a $200 million class action settlement against car manufacturers Kia and Hyundai on behalf of millions of consumers. The suit involved the automakers’ failure to install an engine-immobilizer anti-theft device. Tellis also obtained a common-fund settlement valued at more than $145 million in a class action lawsuit alleging defective airbag control units in certain Toyota vehicle models.

In addition to his lead roles, Tellis and five other colleagues at Baron & Budd serve on the executive committee for the National Prescription Opiate Litigation, the largest multistate mass tort litigation case in history. Attorneys have obtained nearly $60 billion in settlements against drug distributors, manufacturers and dispensers.
